UPDATE: An explosion at an industrial park in West Kelowna has sent one man to hospital with serious injuries and left other workers shaken up.
It happened early Monday afternoon at Dead Metal Recycling on Auburn Road.
Darcy Kuchirka works at a site not far from where the explosion occurred.
“Looks like he was doing some cutting on a 55 gallon drum. I’m not sure what was in there. Apparently it was an explosive. The drum looked like it exploded right in front of him.”
Kuchirka says the explosion was so powerful it shook his office.
“It sounded like someone had run into the side of our building.”
He says some of his fellow employees who were first on scene left work early because of what they witnessed.
Kuchirka says the man lives in a trailer parked next to Dead Metal and believes he is in his late 50’s or early 60’s.
