UPDATE: A 26-year-old Victoria man who was assaulted on Vancouver Island over the weekend has now died from his injuries. RCMP officers are urging anyone with information to come forward.

VICTORIA – A 26-year-old Victoria man has life-threatening injuries after an altercation with passengers in a taxi.

West Shore RCMP say the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. Saturday on the Songhees First Nation reserve in the Greater Victoria area.

Const. Alex Berube says a group of people, including occupants of a taxi, were involved in a physical altercation.

He says the Major Crime unit is actively investigating and are prioritizing their resources to identify the suspect.

Mounties are asking the people who were in the taxi to come forward, to determine the reason for the altercation.
