UPDATE: Medical Examiner says Edmonton homicide victim stabbed

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Medical Examiner has confirmed a man died as a result of a stabbing over the weekend, and police have released his identity.

Deng Mathew Garang Tong, 23, was stabbed Sunday morning in an altercation that left four others with injuries.

Police were called to a weapons complaint in the area of 102 Street and 107 Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Two men were found suffering from stab wounds and taken to hospital where they remain in serious but stable condition.

Further investigation led officers to an apartment one block west of the original location where Tong was found with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he died.

Two other men with stab wounds were found in hospital. Police believe all of the incidents are related.

Homicide Section is investigating the killing, which is Edmonton’s third homicide of the year.
