TORONTO – The mother of a naked toddler who was found wandering outside in Etobicoke Friday afternoon is expected to be charged with abandonment.
A neighbour found the four-year-old near Twelfth Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, police said. The neighbour took him into her home and wrapped him in a blanket.
Police said officers tried to knock on the door of the toddler’s home but it was locked. The toddler was taken to a local police station and the mother contacted.
The mother was taken to 22 Division headquarters and is expected to be charged with abandonment of a child under the age of 10.

Police are investigating and the child at St. Joseph’s Hospital undergoing precautionary testing.
An extreme cold weather alert was cancelled Friday morning but temperatures were still below -10 degrees C. when the toddler was found outside.
The incident comes roughly 24 hours after three-year-old Elijah Marsh, who was staying at his grandmother’s apartment on Neptune Drive wandered away during the middle of the night. He was found in the snow and taken to hospital around 10 a.m. Thursday where he later succumbed to his injuries.
