TORONTO – A group of students in Minnesota are lucky to be alive after their school bus went out of control and police had to physically stop the bus to avoid tragedy.
The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office has released dashcam footage that shows a school bus in Isle, Minnesota – about two hours north of Minneapolis – swerve all over the road after the driver suffered an apparent medical emergency.
“It was one of those things that you don’t see every day,” Sheriff Scott Turner told WCCO.
An officer was alerted to the situation – an ordeal that lasted over 14 minutes and five miles – and followed the bus to monitor the situation.
At one point in the video, viewers can see the bus nearly fall over into a ditch – only for the vehicle to slowly force its way back on the road.

Later on, the bus nearly takes out an oncoming vehicle. However, the officer trailing the bus was able to alert the other driver who immediately began to reverse as fast as they could – eventually making it safely to a nearby driveway.
“She was getting around the bus in the opposite lane to alert vehicles that were ahead of the bus that there was some problem on the roadway there to, you know, get out of the way,” Turner told CBS reporter John Lauritsen.
The bus was eventually stopped after officers deployed stop sticks.
The students range in age from six to 14 – some even managed to call emergency services or their parents while they were in danger.
At the time of this writing, there was no update available as to the status of the driver.
