Man shot in Maple Ridge has links to drug trade

A man with links to the drug trade was shot in Maple Ridge Saturday night and may have life-threatening injuries, Ridge Meadows RCMP said.

Police got multiple 911 calls just before 8 p.m. saying shots had been fired near Dewdney Trunk Road and Rosewood Street.

Several police officers were near the area, and they found a male victim shortly after arriving. He was airlifted to hospital by the B.C. Ambulance Service, spokesman Dan Herbranson said in a news release.

“The victim remains in hospital with possible life threatening injuries. Police request that anyone with any information on this crime call Ridge Meadows RCMP 604-463-6251,” Herbranson said.

Inspector David Fleugel said the investigation is in its early stages.

“What I do know is the victim is well known to the members of our detachment, and he has been linked to the illicit drug trade in our area. This does not appear to be a random act,” he said. “We are utilizing all of our investigators, and have received assistance from the RCMP Lower Mainland District’s integrated units such as the Emergency Response Team, the Police Service Dogs, and Forensic Identification Section.”
