Arts communities mourn after tragic car crash

REGINA – RCMP have confirmed the identity of the driver of the 2003 Subaru Outback involved in a tragic car accident on Tuesday north of Regina.

The driver of the Outback was 49-year-old Michele Sereda of Regina and the passengers in the car with her were 29-year-old Lacy Morin-Desjarlais of Regina, 58-year-old Michael Green of Calgary and 60-year-old Narcisse Blood from Cardston, Alberta.

All four were respected members of the arts community in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The University of Regina earlier today released a statement saying that the campus is saddened to learn of the passing of two active members (Sereda and Desjarlais) of the arts community in Regina who have deep connections with the Faculty of Fine Arts.

“Both Lacy and Michele were fantastic role models for our students and dedicated to working with First Nations communities,” said Professor Rae Staseson.

“Our most sincere condolences go out to their families. They were two of our brightest stars in the local arts community and they will be immensely missed.”

Similar sentiments having been pouring in from Alberta as well over the loss of Green and Blood.

The fifth person killed in the crash is a 59-year-old Morley Hartenberger from Cupar, Saskatchewan who was driving the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche.
