Crowdfunding campaigns have become increasingly common, but a Surrey farmer says his campaign to buy new equipment is different. The difference: the farmer gives all his products away.
Jas Singh started the God’s Little Acre farm four years ago with $120 and claims to have given away more 190,000 kgs of vegetables to those in need.
During that time, Singh has never asked for public assistance, funding his efforts by driving a truck in the winter and on weekends.

But Singh says his farm is in desperate need of an equipment upgrade and started a GoFundMe fundraising campaign. They hope to repair an old potato digger that is jerryrigged with duct tape and only has working chains on one side of the machine.
“They broke and we couldn’t afford to fix them so what we do is we just use half the digger,” he says. “We go down the row and we turn the tractor around and we bring it back up.”
They also hope to buy new tractors and a potato planter.
Singh, who gave up a corporate job to start the farm, says he has always done his best to get the most out of his money, regularly repairing aging equipment, but the farm is growing to the point where they need to make improvements.
