A woman who was allegedly unlicensed to practice medicine has been shut down by the governing body of physicians in B.C. following a recent investigation.

On Jan. 28, the College of Physicians and Surgeons seized boxes and vials of injectable medication, syringes, needles and documents from a B.C. business.

Few details have been released regarding the location or name of the business owner because the court files are currently sealed. However the College did say in a statement that their investigation revealed the woman had been misrepresenting herself by using the title of ‘doctor’ and ‘physician’ and administering Botox and other equivalent products.

According to the College, injecting Botox, which is considered a prescription drug, is a medical service that can only be performed by licensed health professions (doctors, dental surgeons, and registered nurses).

The BC Supreme Court has issued an interim injunction stopping the business owner from providing any further medical services and will eventually rule on the College’s application to make it permanent.

Although the court file is sealed, the College has been allowed to contact patients who were treated at the facility.
