WATCH: Uber offers limited-time ‘puppy delivery service’

ABOVE: Puppies on demand – car service Uber offers a one-day app to deliver needy puppies right to you

Picture this: you’re on your way home from a rough day at the office. You’re tired, you’re stressed, and you think “You know what would really cheer me up? A puppy to play with.”

So you whip out your phone, click a few buttons, and within minutes a cute furry friend has been delivered right to you.

Sounds too good (and too bizarre) to be true? Well not if you were an Uber customer in Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Teaming up with the Washington Animal Rescue League, and Animal Planet, Uber offered a new “PUPPIES” option on their smartphone app that allowed users to get some puppy lovin’ on demand.

“We’ve never done anything like this, you know, it was kind of ‘puppies on demand,’” Bob Ramin, Executive Director of the the Washington Animal Rescue League told WUSA-9 News.

“It was a great idea brought to us by Animal Planet and Uber, and we thought ‘Well this is a good way to get the word out there of the Washington Animal Rescue League.”

Customers didn’t get to keep the puppy once it was delivered. Instead, it was more like a rental, where users paid to play with the puppies for a set amount of time.

The service cost $30 U.S. for 15 minutes of puppy time. Organizers say that every dollar made will be donated directly to the Washington Animal Rescue League.

The Washington Animal Rescue League says they will go over the steps to adopt a puppy for those clients that want one to call their own.

In addition to a cuteness overload, clients also got a Puppy Bowl gift pack, which is where Animal Planet comes in: the channel is airing their eleventh “Puppy Bowl” this Sunday prior to the Super Bowl.
