EDMONTON – A freezing rain warning was issued Tuesday morning for Edmonton and the surrounding area, as well as regions north and south of the city.
Environment Canada said a cold front will slip southwards across central Alberta on Tuesday, bringing with it a band of freezing rain to many areas.
The freezing rain warning was issued for the following places:
- City of Edmonton – St. Albert – Sherwood Park
- Spruce Grove – Morinville – Mayerthorpe – Evansburg
- Fort Saskatchewan – Vegreville – Redwater – Smoky Lake
- Drayton Valley – Devon – Rimbey – Pigeon Lake
- Leduc – Camrose – Wetaskiwin – Tofield
- Lloydminster – Wainwright – Vermilion – Provost
- Whitecourt – Edson – Fox Creek – Swan Hills
The freezing rain is expected to develop in the Whitecourt area late in the afternoon and then move southeast across the Edmonton and Lloydminster regions early in the evening. The freezing rain is expected to last a few hours, and is likely to cause hazardous icing conditions.
Colder air is expected to follow, bringing with it snow. Roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
