VANCOUVER – It can only be called a very Canadian traffic problem.

On Monday morning, West Vancouver Police were called to 15th Street and Bellevue Avenue to deal with an unusual jaywalker. A slow-moving beaver was making his way across the road, and even though there was not much traffic at the time, he was causing quite a commotion.

Beavers live in the area, around the duck ponds and streams, but for some reason this beaver wanted to check out the shops.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Officers and pedestrians tried their hand at ‘beaver herding’, which West Vancouver Police say has become part of the job, but the beaver was not easily moved along.

Eventually he was safely shooed into nearby John Lawson Park, but the incident caused quite a commotion on Twitter!
