Winnipeg cops probe complaint against former Red River College president

WINNIPEG – Red River College has asked the police to review an allegation against Stephanie Forsyth, the college’s controversial former president.

Forsyth was criticized last fall for allegedly taking surplus marble from the college’s Union Bank Tower building project and having it installed in the kitchen of her Wellington Crescent home.

At a news conference Wednesday, the college’s board of governors announced they asked police Monday to look into the case for possible wrongdoing.

“As of yesterday, the board made the decision to engage Winnipeg police to undertake a review of the allegations. The board looked into this to the best of its ability but determined we do not possess the necessary legal tools to adequately conclude the investigation,” the board said in a news release.

Forsyth quit as Red River president effective Aug. 31, 2014, and relocated to British Columbia.

The police investigation was announced the same day the province released a damning review of financial and human resources problems at RRC during Forsyth’s tenure as president.

“The last few years are not a reflection of our history,” RRC board of governors chairman Lloyd Schreyer said Tuesday.
