Gang related murder trial may be moved to Vancouver

The trial for seven men accused in a Kelowna murder may not be held in the Okanagan.

The Crown has applied to have the trial transferred to Vancouver.

The case involves the beating death of Dain Phillips, 51, in June on a Rutland street.

Police say Phillips was attacked by a group of men who are either members or associates of the Hells Angels and another biker gang.

A spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Ministry says the large number of accused and lawyers in the case puts too much demand on court resources in Kelowna.

Security may also be an issue.

It is expected the Crown will make an application in Vancouver on Monday to have the trial transferred to that city.
