Suspicious package in Cole Harbour removed, evacuation order lifted

HALIFAX – Police say a suspicious package found in Cole Harbour that forced neighbours out of their homes temporarily on Tuesday contained “hazardous chemicals”, but no explosives.

The package was found around 9:30 p.m. Monday at a home at 54 Lakeridge Crescent in Cole Harbour. Officers went to the scene and concluded the package was suspicious.

After being on scene for most of the day, police removed the package and lifted the evacuation order.

According to a neighbour, the home on Lakeridge Crescent is currently unoccupied and being renovated.

RCMP said they are still on scene at a property in Grand Desert that’s connected to the incident and an explosive disposal unit will search it Tuesday evening.
