A giant boulder that fell onto Highway 12 just north of Lytton was blocking the road in both directions, but has since reopened between Lillooet and Lytton.

According to Rick Blixrud of the Ministry of Transportation, the plan was to blow up the boulder rather than remove it, which they did Monday afternoon.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Blixrud believes the boulder fell due to the quick transition last week between snow and the mild weather that followed.
