WINNIPEG – Police are investigating a crash that involved a truck hitting an ambulance and a jewellery store in the 400 block of Notre Dame Avenue Saturday.

Police say that a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service ambulance was driving westbound on Notre Dame Avenue and was close to a green light at Isabel Street.

A pick-up truck was driving northbound on Isabel as the ambulance entered the intersection and the two vehicles crashed, causing the truck to hit a nearby jewellry store.

“There were a lot of people who were close to where it happened, within a couple of feet of where it stopped,” said Jeremy Epp, owner of Independent Jewellers.

“It was amazing that no one got hurt,” said Epp. Most of the staff went home for the day after the incident, Epp said many of them were in shock.

“We’re still investigating this, we’re still trying to piece together exactly what took place, fairly substantial damage to the business, that’s pretty evident,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen.

Streets in the area were closed off Saturday morning at about 9:30 but are now open to traffic.
