HALIFAX – A second young man who pleaded guilty in the Rehtaeh Parsons child pornography case in Halifax has been sentenced to a year of probation.

The 20-year-old man has been ordered to attend counselling, not contact Parsons’s family and not drink or possess alcohol, among other conditions.

The man pleaded guilty in November to distributing a sexually graphic image of Parsons, who was 15 years old at the time of the offence.

He cannot be identified because he was a minor when he committed the crime in the fall of 2011.

Another 20-year-old man also charged in the case was given a conditional discharge in November after he pleaded guilty to making child pornography by taking a photo of the accused having sex with the girl.

His identity is also protected because he was a minor at the time.

The 17-year-old Parsons was taken off life-support in April 2013 after a suicide attempt her parents say was the result of relentless cyberbullying.

Leah Parsons said she is looking forward to the results of a review into her daughter’s case.

“We’ve been wondering for three years now what are in those reports and what are the reasons that nothing was done…and why no sexual assault charges,” she said.
