TORONTO — Woody Allen will write and direct his first ever television series, Amazon Studios announced Tuesday.
The untitled half-hour show will be available only on Prime Instant Video in the U.S., U.K. and Germany.
“I don’t know how I got into this,” said Allen, 79, in a release. “I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin.”
Casting details have not been announced.
“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honour to be working with him on his first television series,” said Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios, in a release.
“From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Amazon Studios made history Sunday night when it became the first online streaming service to win a Golden Globe for Best TV Series. Transparent also earned a Golden Globe for star Jeffrey Tambor.
