German Shepherd gets new lease on life with her own wheelchair

WATCH ABOVE: Aaron McArthur talks to Lisa Granger about her dog Natasha.

VANCOUVER – A dog from North Vancouver is proving cats are not the only pet with more than one life.

Natasha is a paralyzed German Shepherd. The 11-and-a-half year old knows a thing or two about survival.

Three years ago she fought and beat cancer. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with a degenerative disease, similar to ALS. Then, last February, she was attacked by a neighbour’s pit bull.

Three surgeries later she lost the use of her back legs, but her owner never gave up on her.

“She has such joy of life and she doesn’t realize that she has any handicap,” said owner Lisa Granger. “She knows that obviously things aren’t as easy, but she’s in the chair and she’s out with us, she does everything that she normally does.”

“She can’t go up steep hills, she can’t go over logs any more, but she still loves going out and walking. She goes out with her other dog friends, and still chases sticks.”
