TORONTO – A former pastor of a Toronto church who was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of his 30-year-old pregnant wife in 2011 has been sentence to 14 years and 8 months in prison.
The sentence was handed down at a Toronto courthouse Friday morning.
Philip Grandine, who was 25 at the time of her death, originally told police he had gone for a run that evening and returned to find his wife, Karissa Grandine, unconscious in the tub.
He was later charged with first-degree murder when police found a sedative in her blood.
A jury reached a verdict of manslaughter following two days of deliberations in December.
Grandine was having an affair with one of his parishioners at the time of the murder and the prosecution alleged he drugged his wife so he could continue on with the relationship.
Grandine’s mistress Elaine Florentino, testified during the trial that her relationship with the former pastor continued after his wife’s death but ended in January 2012.
