Draisaitl makes impressive debut with Kelowna Rockets

KELOWNA — The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 4-2 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place, improving its WHL-best record to 32-6-3-0 on the season.

Newly acquired Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist in his Rockets debut and was named the game’s first star in the win, just two days after arriving in Kelowna from the Edmonton Oilers.

Tyson Baillie, Gage Quinney and Rourke Chartier, into an empty net, also scored for the Rockets while Dillon Dube had a pair of helpers. For Chartier it was his WHL-leading 36th goal of the season.

Jackson Whistle was stellar in net for the Rockets 39 of 41 shots to earn the win.

The Rockets now head to a Friday night match-up in Kamloops against the Blazers before returning home on Saturday to host the Medicine Hat Tigers.

On Saturday the Rockets will honour its gold medal winning players as Madison Bowey and Josh Morrissey will play their first game since winning gold with Team Canada. World Junior management committee member Bruce Hamilton will also be honoured.
