VANCOUVER – It may be from October, 2013, but a photo of a University of Victoria parking violation has gone viral again after it was posted on Reddit and Buzzfeed.

The photo shows a note on the dashboard of a car saying: Please please please don’t give me a ticket!! I was late for my midterm and there was no parking anywhere =’(”

“Good karma =)”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

A UVic parking citation notice taped to the windshield shows a warning that the person was parked in reserved parking, but they were not fined any money.

Patrick Seward, the parking and transportation manager at UVic, said the first time he saw this photo he thought it is never a good idea to leave a note on the dashboard. “We never recommend that to people,” he said. “However, from time to time, our officers will give out warnings and not tickets with dollar amounts attached to them.”

Campus Security Services manages the parking at the university and Seward said they will issue warnings, not fines, if a ticket is upside down or partially obscured.

The number on the parking pass is not legible in the photo, but Seward said if they were able to see that, they would know the student owner of the car.

Buzzfeed said this act was due to “kindness or Canadianness or both.”
