A long line of vehicles waited on the Trans-Canada Highway Monday morning between Sicamous and Revelstoke. The road was closed west of Revelstoke in both directions due to a considerable avalanche risk in the area. Some waiting for the road to reopen said they had been there overnight.
Revelstoke RCMP say they got a call about a vehicle getting stuck in an avalanche Sunday night in the Three Valley Gap area.
“The occupant was able to get out because the snow was up to about the windows,” says Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky.
The vehicle involved has since been cleared from the area. The highway reopened after 11 a.m. Monday morning once avalanche control work had been done.
