WATCH: Penticton “Snow Angels” help neighbours

PENTICTON — People in Penticton woke up to a blanket of white Monday.  Armed with a shovel, Jenna Daignault has spent about an hour clearing her own driveway and now she’s working on her neighbours’.

“Our neighbours are 90+ and they looked very stranded in their garage area over there,” says Daignault.

Her father George Payne helps make headway with a snow blower.

Their elderly neighbour Kulik Edward is grateful for the aid, but feels uneasy.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I appreciate what they’re doing, but I want to pay them. I don’t want it for free,” says Edward.

But it’s an offer the hard-working pair refuses to accept.

The modest duo don’t consider themselves to be “snow angels” but that’s exactly what the City of Penticton considers them to be.

A city bylaw requires everyone to clear their sidewalks, but Penticton spokesperson Simone Blais recognizes it can be difficult to deal with the elements for many.

“It can be very taxing for the elderly and those with mobility challenges, so the snow angel program is a way of rewarding those in the community,” explains Blais.

Some of the rewards include city merchandise.
