MONTREAL – More than $18,000 has already been raised to help a young woman recover after being hit by a train in Montreal’s Pointe-Saint-Charles borough.
Around 3 a.m. on December 8, 22-year-old Sarah Stott was heading home from work at the Irish Embassy pub in downtown Montreal when she was struck by a freight train.
The impact severed both her legs.

She was found lying near the tracks not too far from the CN train yard near Bridge and Wellington streets.
“The driver found Sarah by the train tracks barely conscious, in shock with hypothermia, severely frostbitten hands and no legs,” writes Whyte.
She was rushed to the hospital and remains in the intensive care unit, having undergone numerous surgeries since being admitted.
“Her hands are slowly regaining colour and the doctors are hopeful that she will be able to keep them,” writes Whyte.
“Her left leg is gone just below the knee and the right leg completely removed along with her hip bone.”
Whyte describes Sarah as greatly independent, an animal lover and an enthusiastic dancer.
She is collecting money to help the “loving, funny, beautiful, gregarious” girl dance again.
The goal is to raise $500,000 for Sarah’s medical bills, as well as for prosthetic legs in the eventual future.
