MONTREAL – Quebec motivational speaker and adventurer, Frederic Dion, became the first man to reach the geographic South Pole on a solo quest.
After travelling over 3,000 km in 45 days, Dion reached his destination on Christmas Day.
The Quebec adventurer travelled by kite ski from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole of Inaccessibility, and nine days later he arrived at the geographic South Pole.
The South Pole of Inaccessibility is considered the most challenging of the two destinations as it is the farthest from the coast.
During his epic quest, Dion endured temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius, whiteouts, a broken sled and even a fire that nearly destroyed his tent.
But there is no rest for the weary. Dion still has 1,130 km left before he reaches his final destination of Hercules Inlet.
