Manitoba RCMP advise against travel due to icy roads

WINNIPEG – RCMP ask motorists not to travel Tuesday morning because many roads are ice-covered.

“The RCMP are advising motorists that travel is not recommended while these conditions continue,” a 7 a.m. news release from the Mounties said.

Highway 1 West, the Portage la Prairie bypass, was closed for several hours overnight because of the ice. Travellers had to detour through the city west of Winnipeg.

The Manitoba road report showed ice-covered roads in many areas, particularly west and southwest of Winnipeg.
