WATCH: Oswald promises respectful, dignified NDP leadership campaign

WINNIPEG – Former Manitoba health minister Theresa Oswald promised a “respectful, dignified” campaign for the NDP leadership as she started her bid to take her boss’s job.

Oswald, who resigned from cabinet after challenging Premier Greg Selinger’s leadership, spoke to the Global Winnipeg Morning News on Monday, a day after her official campaign launch.

“Let’s not sugarcoat it. We’re at a crossroads,” Oswald said. “We are not at the moment, I think, in a place that would be seen to be competitive in the next election.”

However, despite her challenge of Selinger’s leadership, she promised a civil tone in her campaign.

“Leadership races have the potential to become extremely divisive,” she said. “We have to be together and united to go forward and to succeed in 2016.”
