Beer created to honour Tim Jones sells out in less than a month

The Shredder Golden Ale, named in honour of Tim Jones, has completely sold out in just two weeks.

A special beer created to honour the beloved former leader of North Shore Rescue has surpassed everyone’s expectations.

The Shredder Golden Ale, created in the memory of Tim Jones, was released on November 15, but the 60 kegs of it created by Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers has already sold out.

“We were a little bit concerned at the beginning…talking about a big volume like that,” said Shae de Jaray, President of Deep Cove Brewers.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“But it was overwhelming and extremely moving in terms of how many people wanted to be a part of this.”

Tim Jones was the longtime leader of North Shore Search before dying of a heart attack on January 19. Jones, who was given the nickname Shredder, had worked tirelessly over the years to raise funds for NSR, which relies on donations for equipment and training.

Between a silent auction for the beer’s launch and sales to local breweries, the Shredder Golden Ale has raised over $10,000.

“The goal is to have this be an annual event,” says de Jaray. “It was hugely well received.”

“We had tons of phone calls telling us how amazing both the project was…and the actual taste of the beer. It’s a win win.”
