EDMONTON – Canada Border Services Agency officers have made another bust at the Edmonton International Airport, this time finding $39,700 in fake U.S. currency.

The discovery was made on Dec. 2 at a cargo facility.

Officers examining a courier shipment from Nigeria found a magazine stuffed with 397 counterfeit U.S. $100 bills being sent to an address in Edmonton. The bills, which didn’t contain any security features, were concealed within the pages of the magazine. The parcel was turned over to the RCMP for investigation.

The seizure comes less than a month after Edmonton police issued a warning about an increase in counterfeit U.S. $100 bills. Police found more than 120 counterfeit bills with similar serial numbers had been used at Edmonton-area businesses since the beginning of October.

Earlier this year CBSA officers seized nearly $68,000 in currency – this time real – at the airport. The money, mostly Canadian $100 and $50 dollar bills, was seized because the fill amount wasn’t declared.
