MONTREAL – The snowy weather has forced police to close Highway 20 east of Levis, in both directions.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, there were numerous accidents along the highway, a stretch known for being particularly treacherous due to blowing snow and vicious winds.
About twenty vehicles, mostly trucks, were involved in multiple pile-ups.
One person was seriously injured and taken to l’Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis hospital, but their life is not in danger.
Several other drivers were also seriously injured, but there are no fatalities.
Police are asking commuters to avoid the area.
There are numerous other road closures in Central Quebec due icy roads and extremely poor driving conditions.
