Deputy Fire Chief Roy Hollett said the truck was making a turn onto another part of the highway when the collision happened, and its lights and sirens were activated at the time.

He said the truck’s front end was significantly damaged, and serious accidents involving emergency vehicles are rare in the Halifax area.

“We do get minor hits and cars hitting the bumper, but not to this degree,” he said.

The man driving the vehicle was not injured and refused medical treatment.
