TORONTO — The Molson Canadian Amphitheatre was honoured Thursday night at the 11th annual Billboard Touring Awards in New York City.

The concert venue on the shore of Lake Ontario, just minutes from downtown Toronto, was awarded the Top Amphitheatre prize.

The ceremony at the Edison Ballroom recognized the concert industry’s top artists, professionals and venues. Hosted by comedian Ralphie May, the show featured performances by Rixton and Kool & The Gang.

The Molson Canadian Amphitheatre — often referred to as the Molson Amp — beat Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh, New York and Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

The partially-covered venue, which opened in 1995, is owned by the province of Ontario and has a capacity of about 16,000. It was built to replace the Ontario Place Forum, which stood on the site for more than two decades.
