Fort Erie bound QEW in St. Catharines reopens

TORONTO – The Fort-Erie-bound QEW was closed for a brief time Wednesday in St. Catharines due to severe weather conditions.

The OPP closed the road shortly before noon after severe weather casued dangerous driving conditions in the area.

The road reopened at approximately 12:40 p.m.

Remnants of the snow band which pummeled New York state earlier this week were moving through St. Catharines Wednesday.

Parts of New York State saw more than five feet of snow as a result of the lake effect, forcing the closure of a 132-mile stretch of the state Thruway in western New York.

Erie County, which includes Buffalo, declared a state of emergency.
