‘Je vois Montreal’ aims to change the city’s future prospects

MONTREAL — Hundreds of Montreal politicians, educators, changemakers and newsmakers have come together at the Place des Arts to discuss the future of the city and share ideas for its revitalization.

The Je Vois Montreal (I See Montreal) initiative was started when Jacques Ménard, president of the BMO Financial Group in Quebec and chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns, was inspired by how other cities facing similar issues managed to change.

Ménard commissioned a consulting report on how cities like Manchester, Melbourne, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh all shared a high level of community involvement that helped those metropolises to shift their direction and get their cities back on track.

After a call out to Montreal citizens for ideas, various organizations and community-minded individuals have submitted over 200 proposals to help bring change to the city.

On Monday, conference participants will discuss 150 of those ideas, provide feedback and shape a plan for the future.

Then, project sponsors will decide whether to sign contracts that commit them to act on the proposals.
