VANCOUVER – B.C. Housing has spent nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to deal with bedbugs in the Lower Mainland.

The provincial agency oversees 49 different housing developments in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Over the period of a year, bedbugs were detected at 43 facilities.

The agency had the buildings sprayed to deal with the problem, although it’s not clear whether the residences are now completely bed bug free.

The agency points out that it is now using additional measures to fight the bloodsucking pests, including mobile units which can heat treat infested furniture.
