WATCH: An elderly woman caused a multi-vehicle pileup in southwest China Wednesday after she slowly walked across a busy road during rush hour.
TORONTO – An elderly pedestrian in China has survived a horrific multi-vehicle pileup after a bus swerved to avoid her – smashing into oncoming traffic.
The incident was captured by a surveillance camera which shows the unidentified woman walking across the busy road despite it being rush hour in the southwest Chinese municipality of Chongqing.
As seen in the video, the bus driver hits the brakes, veering directly into the opposite lane. Within moments the bus collides head-on with a truck. As debris is showered across the road, the bus spins and hits a second bus before coming to a stop.
The woman’s body can be seen trapped underneath.
Miraculously, the woman survived while reportedly suffering several fractures. Ten bus passengers suffered minor injuries.
“When I was about to pull in to the bus stop, I heard a squealing noise from the other bus as its wheels locked up. I saw from the rearview mirror that an old lady was in the middle of the road, and the bus made a left turn before crashing into a truck which made it spin round,” said Zhou Yincai, driver of the second bus.
