Crash in north Edmonton sends 5 people to hospital

EDMONTON — Five people were taken to hospital following a collision in north Edmonton Wednesday afternoon.

Two of the patients were in serious condition, while three were said to have non life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 in the area of 137 Avenue and 123A Street.

Witnesses tell Global News that ever since a third lane was added to 137 Avenue, they believe the road has become a dangerous speedway.

Traffic on 137 Avenue was shut down in both directions from 113A Street to 127 Street as police investigated the crash.

Police notified the public of the closure at 6:20 p.m. and said it was expected to last for the next several hours.
