WINNIPEG – The Canadian Toy Association released its hot toys for the holidays list Tuesday and there is a changing trend to traditional items.

A handful of lucky kids in Toronto were able to test more than 70 of this year’s wish list items.

“It’s all about the children playing with the different toys you might find under your Christmas tree this year,” Kerry George said Tuesday. “Children are unbiased in their point of view. They will tell you if you like something or they don’t.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

In Winnipeg, local toy shop Kite and Kaboodle is stocking up on one item in particular that is topping many lists.

“The biggest thing will be Lego, for sure Lego,” Kite and Kaboodle owner Jim Cordingly said.

Earlier this year, when the Lego Movie was released, Cordingly saw a jump in sales, he said, as the movie drew even more people to a toy created in 1932.

“As a parent, I know that I want my kid to grow up learning some of the skills, the fine motor skills and all those things, so you tend to give them the classic toys because that’s where they are going to get that,” Cordingly said.

Despite the changing trend back to traditional and retro toys, there is still a push for electronics. The 2014 toy list featured the Zoomer Dino and Leap Frog interactive games. Also topping this year’s list, products connected to Disney’s Frozen.
