Alleged Fairview Mall Peeping Tom faces sexual voyeurism charges in Montreal court

MONTREAL — A 53-year-old man appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges of sexual voyeurism in the so-called “Fairview Mall Peeping Tom” case.

The alleged incident dates back to September, when 17-year-old Matthew Tod was using the Sears’ washrooms in the Fairview Pointe-Claire shopping mall on the way home from his grandmother’s house.

He didn’t think making a quick stop at the would become such a terrifying experience.

“[A man] came close to my bathroom stall and then started to look in,” he told Global News.

“He went into the next stall and put his hand over, and that’s when he took a picture with his phone.”

Tod’s experience prompted him to file a police report, even though he said Sears’ security officers had told him not to.

A Global News investigations revealed that the washroom was listed on a Montreal website detailing locations for casual sexual encounters.

Roberto Rana Pable was arrested on October 22, and on Tuesday; he pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual voyeurism.

He is scheduled to appear in court again next month.
