WATCH: Kelowna murder suspect remains in custody following court appearance

The suspect in the random and unprovoked stabbing death Thursday of a man on a Kelowna transit bus made a brief court appearance Monday morning.

Tyler Jack Newton, 23, is charged with second-degree murder. He is not seeking bail and remains in custody pending another court appearance November 20th.

Outside the courthouse, a woman who says her daughter is Newton’s girlfriend described the accused killer as a “good kid who’s having a rough time”.

Newton has a lengthy criminal record, having served jail time for numerous offenses including drug possession and trafficking, break and enter, possessing stolen property, vehicle theft, resisting arrest and dangerous driving.

He was arrested on the murder charge Friday night without incident in one of the units of a Hein Road four-plex in the Rutland neighbourhood.

The murder victim is Caesar Rosales, 55, who worked as a business system analyst at Kelowna Flightcraft.
