UPDATE: The Reddit user who made the original post has confirmed that the map has also been shared with the Regina Police Service and RCMP. The user also indicates that this information was reported anonymously to police in the past.
REGINA – Regina police say they’re investigating a post made this weekend to the website Reddit about the possible location of Tamra Keepness.
The original post, entitled “location of Tamra Keepness, check the wells,” consisted solely of an image of a crudely-drawn map of an area on or near Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation land.
The post was made Sunday by a Reddit user with the username “MySecretIsOut.” The user clarified on Monday that information about the map was passed along years ago by family members and that the map itself was only recently discovered.
Keepness was just five years old when she went missing from her Regina home in July 2004.
Investigators say they’ve received hundreds of tips in the Keepness case, and that this one, like all others, will be investigated thoroughly.
The area in question was searched ten years ago but did not lead to information into the whereabouts of the five-year-old.
“Quite an elaborate operation at the time,” said Elizabeth Popowich with the Regina Police Service. “Unfortunately the initial investigation turns out to have been mischief and so the search never did turn up any information.”
However, until the tip can be more closely investigated, police say it’s impossible to comment on its credibility or on any connection to the disappearance of Tamra Keepness.
RCMP say they are also aware of the post, and have been asked by the Regina Police Service to assist in the investigation.
Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation issued a statement Monday afternoon requesting privacy and indicating they would be cooperating fully with any investigation.
