TORONTO — Actress Lena Dunham used Twitter over the weekend to defend herself against accusations that she molested her sister.
Dunham came under fire for writing in her book Not That Kind of Girl about an incident that occurred when she was 7-years-old and her sister Grace was an infant.
“My curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.
“My mother came running. ‘Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!’
“My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just got on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success.”
Grace Dunham is six years younger than her famous sister.
On Saturday, Lena Dunham fired back at those who have pointed to that passage as a description of a sexual assault.
“It’s really f***ing upsetting and disgusting,” the 28-year-old Girls star tweeted.
“Usually this is stuff I can ignore but don’t demean sufferers, don’t twist my words, back the f*** up bros.”
Dunham said she had simply shared a story “about being a weird 7 year old” and that her sister was laughing at the accusations.
In her book, Dunham also admitted using “anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl” to convince her sister to kiss her.
