Police release sketch of East Vancouver sex assault suspect

Vancouver Police have released a sketch of a man who allegedly stabbed and sexually assaulted a 35-year-old woman on Saturday night.

A 35-year-old-woman was walking on Joyce Street near Archimedes at approximately midnight when she was approached by a man in a vehicle and dragged inside. He then physically assaulted the woman and drove to an area around East 45th Avenue and Rupert Street, where he stabbed and sexually assaulted her.

According to police, the woman was able to scream and fight off her attacker but still suffered major injuries. She was sent to hospital.

Police are looking for the male suspect and said their early investigations suggest the woman was targeted because the attacker thought she was a sex trade worker.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid to late 40s, Middle-Eastern, approximately 6′ to 6’2″ tall, 250 lbs with a heavy, solid build. Witnesses said he has an olive skin tone, spoke with an accent and was balding with a short-shaved black fringe of hair around the sides and back of his head.

The vehicle used in the attack was an older model, dark bluish-green coloured minivan with a sliding door on the passenger side and dark tinted windows along the sides.

Police are asking anyone with information about the identity of the suspect or whereabouts of the vehicle to contact the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit 604-717-0601.
