Growlers now available in Manitoba

WINNIPEG – They’re gaining popularity across North America and now for the first time in Manitoba, growlers are available at several locations.

Beer lovers can go seven different spots in Winnipeg and Brandon where they can buy a two-litre jug and fill it with craft beers at filling stations.

“People are ecstactic about it,” said Craig Jocelyn, Vice President of hotel operations at Assiniboine Gordon Inn.  “It’s big out west and a lot of people are coming in who have seen it out there and it’s been nothing but positive.”

In Winnipeg, growlers can be found at: Kenaston Crossing Liquor Mart, St. Vital Square Liquor Mart, Northdale Shopping Centre Liquor Mart, Spring Meadow Square Liquor Mart and Assiniboine Gordon Inn. Brandon 10th and Victoria Liquor Mart and the Keystone Motor Inn also have also added growlers to their bars.

“The purchase is his or hers to keep,” said Jocelyn. “They wash it, they bring it in, there’s not a deposit… we look at it and we just refill it.”
