Obama on the Ottawa shooting: ‘We’re all shaken by it’

WATCH: U.S. President Barack Obama called the attack outrageous. The U.S is closely watching the situation, fearing a copycat attack. Washington Bureau Chief Jackson Proskow reports.

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned the fatal shooting in Ottawa as “outrageous.”

He says “We’re all shaken by it.”

Obama says the motive for the attack remains unknown.

But he says as more becomes known, that information will be factored into U.S. security considerations.

Obama says he spoke by telephone today with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and offered him condolences on behalf of the American people.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was shot and killed after a gunman opened fire in the nation’s capital just before 10 a.m.

Gunfire also erupted inside Parliament where authorities say the gunman was killed.

Obama also expressed the American people’s solidarity with Canada.
