WINNIPEG – It’s the final push before Winnipeg heads to the polls, and while the candidates were taking part in a televised debate Tuesday night, the volunteer machine behind the candidates was full steam ahead.
“There is never a shortage of things for volunteers to do,” volunteer Corey Shefman said Tuesday afternoon.
At Brian Bowman’s headquarters Tuesday, phones were ringing off the hook, people were still out putting up signs, and the volunteers behind Bowman didn’t hit the pause button.
“Our callers will be calling until 9 p.m,” adding the team had already made “tens of thousands of phone calls easily.”
And across the street, Team Judy was out in full force, wearing Judy T-Shirts, fielding phones, handing out buttons and signs.
Volunteer Judy Jennings, who volunteered for Judy Wasylycia-Leis in the last election, says people have been walking through the doors, throwing their support behind the mayoral candidate.
“People have been coming in to see what they can do. It’s great.”
Candidate Robert-Falcon Ouellette had a different approach to gather votes. He and his campaign volunteers headed to Kildonan Place Mall, trying to capture the undecided vote in that area.
