Teenager airlifted to hospital following serious accident in Abbotsford

VANCOUVER – A teenager in Abbotsford has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car Tuesday morning.

Just after 7:15 a.m. an Abbotsford Police dog handler came across an accident at the intersection of Maclure and Old Yale Roads.

“Upon arrival he found an 18-year-old male suffering from severe injuries as a result of being impacted by a smaller black vehicle,” said Const. Paul Walker with the Abbotsford Police.

The woman driving the car remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

The young man has now been transported via air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital, suffering from serious and life-threatening injuries.

“Early this morning there [were] many vehicles on the roadway,” said Walker, “and we are appealing to witnesses this morning who were using this route as a commuter route, and who have seen anything as a result of the impact or evidence that we could possibly get from them, we’re appealing for them to contact the police department.”

He said due to the dark conditions and rainy weather in the mornings, it is important for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to slow down and use caution.
