Canadian drama series to debut on ‘shomi’ streaming service

TORONTO — Streaming services shomi and Netflix are teaming up with broadcaster City on an original drama series.

The partnership is the first of its kind in Canada.

Between, described as a survivalist thriller series, was created by Toronto writer-filmmaker Michael McGowan (One Week) and will star Jennette McCurdy (iCarly).

The six-episode series will debut on City and shomi (co-owned by Global News parent company Shaw Communications) in Canada and on Netflix in markets outside Canada. A year after its premiere, Between will also be available on Netflix Canada.

Between is set in a quarantined town where a mysterious disease has wiped out everybody over 21.

Ottawa-raised director Jon Cassar (24) will direct the first two episodes of the series, which is about to start filming in Southern Ontario.
